Ok it's taper time so it's less about running and more about the head games now and I am definitely already getting emotional about this feat that I am about to undertake.
I spent a great evening tonight with my Running Room group, who have all finished their races, I am the last one to go. It was so great for me to hear their stories and get some new tips - I learn something new every time I talk to someone who has run a marathon so this was very educational and definitely inspiring. The best idea I heard all night was from the lone guy in the group (a 1st timer who qualified for Boston - Rock Star) who made 42 "kilometre tributes" and pulled one out before each km and basically ran that km for that person. I thought this was awesome because I have spent a lot of my alone time on the road doing exactly that so why not formally do it in the race. It was fun to make up my list and it was amazingly easy to come up with 42 people/things that inspired me or allowed me to get to this race. I am going to put them in no particular order so it'll be interesting on race day to see where they all come out as some will make me laugh and some will make me cry. I've realized more in the last month thanks to my injury (which maybe isn't a bad thing after all) that I am going to be running history (if you believe the legend, which I of course do) and I should savour every moment and enjoy it rather than focus on getting in at a specific time. I am going to snap some pics with my iPhone, read my tributes, and have fun.
They say running a marathon is an individual achievement but I really could not have done it without the support I had so it only seems fair to take them on the ride with me!
I'm hoping you are running a km for me, but know that we will be cheering for you live for all 42+, with our eyes on the splits. You have accomplished an amazing feat in the training alone - the race is simply your reward.
